May Schedule

As I mentioned previously, Jack and I are moving at the end of the week into a condo. We've been pretty busy with moving stuff, especially packing. We got a key to the place on Monday to move in this weekend since the property manager will be out of town for a week or two. I wanted to start cleaning the place before Friday (the day we planned to clean the place before moving in on Saturday) since we got access to the place early, but we found out that we would have to let our property manager know if we wanted to drop by so that he can tell the previous tenants since they technically still lease the place until Thursday. Poo to legalities. But we're lucky. Jack's parents and sister are going to help us clean on Friday and then we are having a bunch of people come to help us move on Saturday. We don't have that much stuff so we're hoping to be moved in in about 2-3 hours. We'll also be saving ourselves a few hundred by not going with a moving company. Hooray!

We also called Rogers yesterday and the cable person will come Sunday to install our internet. W00t! Can't live without internet. And we are getting our mail forwarded to our new address. Already updated my mailing address for my creditcard and then I have to update it on a couple of other things. Moving is so annoying. =/

After moving, I'm trying to jam in as much wedding stuff as we can into the month of May so that June will be a little more free and less stressful. So far I've booked our food taste testing, our cake taste testing, my makeup and hair trial appointment, and our engagement shoot into the May weekends. Hopefully I can shove more things in there. Jack and I also booked off a week before and after the wedding so that we can attend to wedding stuff. I'm really hoping this will go as smoothly as possible. =/

P.S. I woke up at 5:30 this morning because of my stupid asthma and couldn't go back to sleep!

Hotel Room Blocks

I was reading a list someone had written about what to ask hotel managers when blocking off hotel rooms for guests. Most of the points I hadn't even though about and I found it really useful. Here is the list:

BEFORE TALKING TO THEM:
- Know how many rooms you'll need and for how many days

QUESTIONS TO ASK:
- If we don't fill up the entire block do we get charged? (book with ones that don't)
- Does the room rate include breakfast?
- Does the hotel provide a complimentary shuttle bus to and from the reception venue?
- Does booking a private shuttle cost us money?
- Do you provide a free honeymoon suite after YZ number of rooms are blocked?
- Can you block our guests near each other?
- Do you allow us to drop off gift bags for check-in?
- What rates can you offer for king rooms, 2-bed rooms, and suites?
- Do you have an online code for guests or do they have to call the hotel directly?

OTHER INFO:
- You will have to sign a contract
- Make sure to get everything promised in writing
- Do not book a room block with your credit card

Photographer Booked

Jack and I have decided on our photographer for our wedding. Her name is Sharon Lee from PICSYL Photography. I actually know Sharon from university - we were both sociology majors. She takes really great pictures and after much contemplation we decided to go with her. Her prices are great too. We will definitely stay under our budget of $1,100. Check out her blog here where you can see loads of pictures she's taken for various occassions.

Gage Park Wedding Photo Booking

I had e-mailed the co-ordinator of Parks and Recreation in Brampton who deals with wedding photo bookings for parks in Brampton and they only got back to me now. I guess they're really busy during Christmas season? Or they don't have a desk job so it's easier to get them by phone than e-mail. Wait...does that make sense? o_O

Anyway, they told me that if you want to book Gage Park for wedding photos you have to do it a year in advance. There is also a difference in fee if you are a resident or non-resident. W00t to being a resident? I am supposed to call her to see if there are any openings for the day I want. Oh yeah right, as if any weekend is free in July 2009 if the booking starts a year in advance. Good thing our ceremony location has a garden so we don't have to find a park. =D

Wedding Errands

I ran some errands today including some wedding related ones. Since I had to give my engagement in to get a diamond replaced at People's I figured I might as well look at their wedding ring selections. The prices for them are under what Jack and I estimated, which is always a good thing. They'are having a storewide sale too which you can read about on their website. Jack and I are looking to get whitegold 14K or 18K simple matching rings. No diamonds or fandy designs - just simple wedding bands. And I don't think I can get diamonds if I wanted to. Since my size is a size 4, the diamonds would just fall out because of the angle they would have to bend the ring into. Fine by me. I'm not that crazy about diamonds. I didn't even want an engagement ring but Jack insisted. So anyway I will get my engagement ring back in about 10 days. It feels so weird now not to have it on. Btw, the ring that they have displayed on their website (the one with the round cut) is the same as my ring!

I also stopped by Tuxedo Royale to ask about tuxedo rentals. The sales person was really friendly and helpful (yay!) and he gave me a catalogue of their merchandise with a pricelist. How convenient! He said that July is their busiest time so we should book our tuxedos by January. Excellent! The sooner we get things done the better.

Totally unrelated to wedding stuff - I also got one of my new hamsters a new wheel. The one she had from her previous owners sucked and the axle pulled out her fur. She is happily running on it now. =D
