Parasols Over Bouquets

I decided last night that instead of carrying bouquets down the aisle, my MOH and I will carry a parasol. Well actually I just added a bridesmaid, so she too will carry a parasol. I also found parasols with an Indian pattern so that way we can still keep with the Indian ceremony theme. W00t! I think parasols are just as beautiful as flowers and they're more unique. Plus it might be hot that day and it will help when we have to take pics in the garden.

Did I mention that these parasols are less than half the price of flowers? I didn't want the parasoles because it was more more economical, but that fact definitely is the icing on the cake. So in addition to decorating the chapel ourselves, I have now cut our floist bill in half, which also comes under our flowers budget. Maybe we can afford to stay in a hotel that night afterall. =D

Origami Wedding

Miss me? Haha, not likely I'm assuming. The last two posts were pretty ugly but I think it really showcases the stresses of wedding planning. Jack and I have started working on a better gameplan for wedding planning. We never really sat down when we first started to lay out what we both were expecting and what was feasible for each of us to accomplish. Nobody really talks about that in wedding planning. I've found that pretty much all the literature out there for wedding planning targets the bride and there is an assumpton that it is the women that have to take on the planning role while men take care of things such as transportation, wedding rings, and the honeymoon. Idiotic is what it really is.

So I was looking at stuff online (as usual) and I came across this picture. The bride and groom decided to make origami flowers for the wedding including the bouquets and the centerpieces. Damn! Now that takes patience.

Florist Quote

I went to a florist with my friend Tina last week and got a quote for the flowers we would need for the wedding. Tina worked for her before so I know that she is a reliable florist. Tina couldn't stop raving about her work. Plus because Tina recommended me to get a quote from her I got discounts on certain items. But even without the discounts the prices were really reasonable and a lot of times under my estimated price range. I based my budget off of a site I read.

ITEMS BUDGETED QUOTED
Bridal Bouquet $100.00 $75.00
Other Bouquets (4) $200.00 $200.00
Boutonnieres (7) $150.00 $28.00
Corsages (2) $50.00 $25.00
Garlands (2) $200.00 $110.00
Church Decorations $200.00 $190.00
Head Table $200.00 $50.00
Centerpieces (20) $200.00 $300.00
Other $0.00 $25.00
Tax (13%) $169.00 $129.74
TOTAL $1,469.00 $1,127.74

I'm planning to check out a couple more options before making my decision but I'm pretty happy with this quote. I think it's very reasonable and I feel comfortable knowing that this florist came as a recommendation.

Tentative Date Set

So after procrastinating, waiting for free time and waiting on others, Jack and I have finally set a date. We will be getting married on July 18, 2009. This date is subject to change if we cannot find a church for that date. I'm thinking that it would be easier to get a church on a Saturday now than a hall since it's pretty late in the game. Some halls book up over a year in advance. If we can't find a hall for that day then I'm thinking that we can get married on a Saturday and then book a hall for the Sunday after (usually Sundays are more free and cheaper than a Friday or Saturday). My mom isn't too thrilled about this idea but when shit happens you just have to work with it. The worst case scenerio is getting married and having our reception on a weekday. The highlight of that option is that usually only the people that really care about going will attend.

I'm going to go to a florist with a friend this Thursday to get a quote. I think I should just make an online to-do list on here.

To Do:
- contact churches
- contact halls & schedule viewing
- check out different florists & compare prices
- decide on whether to make invitations or buy them
- revise guestlist >_>;
- create a wedding registry
- start collecting mailing addresses
- settle the wedding party
- find a photographer & videographer
- look for wedding bands
- refrain from swearing

I like making a done list when I have a to-do list just so that I feel better knowing I have things done already.

Done:
- set a date
- finalize colour scheme

P.S. Happy 25th birthday Jack. Good times Saturday night!
