Home Renovation

UGH! I think I have food poisoning. I hate throwing up and having an upset tummy. I better not get sick during the wedding. At least I had a productive weekend. Ran a few errands with my sister - got her wedding shoes, dropped off and picked up engagement photo for the reception, dropped off our cheongsams to be tailored, etc. Aside from the nausea I feel pretty relaxed about wedding things. Still have things to do here and there, but I feel like we'll get through them. I think it's probably because I had a good weekend with my family. Having their emotional and psychological support does wonders for reducing stress levels.

Speaking of my parents, they are doing crazy renovations on their home for the wedding. I told them that my astham was too aggravated by the nasty carpet in their house so they're replacing it with new flooring. The bedrooms are already done and they look FABULOUS! They are now going to redo the ground floor, which will be done by the end of the week. I can't wait to see it. A new coat of paint here and there, new blinds, new garage door and driveway - their house looks so much better. Personally I think my mom used the wedding as an excuse to get my dad to agree to all the renovations. And with the home renovation tax rebate it's a great time to upgrade the house. So the next time you come over to my parent's house, remember to oogle and awe at how much better it looks. Money well spent.

May Schedule

As I mentioned previously, Jack and I are moving at the end of the week into a condo. We've been pretty busy with moving stuff, especially packing. We got a key to the place on Monday to move in this weekend since the property manager will be out of town for a week or two. I wanted to start cleaning the place before Friday (the day we planned to clean the place before moving in on Saturday) since we got access to the place early, but we found out that we would have to let our property manager know if we wanted to drop by so that he can tell the previous tenants since they technically still lease the place until Thursday. Poo to legalities. But we're lucky. Jack's parents and sister are going to help us clean on Friday and then we are having a bunch of people come to help us move on Saturday. We don't have that much stuff so we're hoping to be moved in in about 2-3 hours. We'll also be saving ourselves a few hundred by not going with a moving company. Hooray!

We also called Rogers yesterday and the cable person will come Sunday to install our internet. W00t! Can't live without internet. And we are getting our mail forwarded to our new address. Already updated my mailing address for my creditcard and then I have to update it on a couple of other things. Moving is so annoying. =/

After moving, I'm trying to jam in as much wedding stuff as we can into the month of May so that June will be a little more free and less stressful. So far I've booked our food taste testing, our cake taste testing, my makeup and hair trial appointment, and our engagement shoot into the May weekends. Hopefully I can shove more things in there. Jack and I also booked off a week before and after the wedding so that we can attend to wedding stuff. I'm really hoping this will go as smoothly as possible. =/

P.S. I woke up at 5:30 this morning because of my stupid asthma and couldn't go back to sleep!

Updating & Moving

Okay I've been really bad at updating but I have a really good excuse! Well more like excuses. I've been busy with other things, namely working out, wedding stuff, and work. Now that I have officially moved divisions at work and I've gotten a permanent desk (yay!), I have to leave even earlier for work because I have to start right at 9am on the dot. So I have to leave home earlier than before because TTC tends to have issues in the morning and I need to give myself a 10-15 minute window for crap to happen and still being able to get to work on time. So basically this means going to bed earlier (10pm). That doesn't give me a lot of time after work to do much, and lately that time has been filled with moving issues (I'll elaborate soon), working out (started doing P90X with Jack...so worth it!), doing wedding planning stuff, and regular household duties (have to do laundry again today D;). So sorry for not updating even though there is A LOT to post about.

So for our new condo that we're moving into at the beginning of May...there were some stupid issues we had to deal with concerning booking the elevator. We had no trouble booking the elevator in our current apartment so we didn't think we would have a hard time at the condo. Wrong! Jack called up the condo and the guy (we'll call him Bob) said we had to give in a deposit. Okay, that's fine. We figured it would be like $20 that they would give back because the point was to make sure we showed up. So Jack shows up to give in the despoit and guess how much they wanted. They asked for a $500 refundable deposit to be paid by a money order or certified cheque. Plus a $25 non-defundable deposit by money order or certified cheque just to book the elevator. If we wanted to move in on a Sunday or stat holiday that would be an extra $75, which didn't apply to us but is still wtf. And we had to fill out a ridiculous form about all our moving details. We were not impressed and we talked to both the property manager for our unit as well as the management for the condo about the situation. They gave into four of the five modifications we asked for, so we can give personal cheques, not have to fill out most of the form, and a couple of other things. We do have to pay $25 to book the elevator though, so we're going to try make the $25 count for something and get at least four hours of booking time (as opposed to 2 hours max). I still think it's stupid to charge tenants for moving into their unit, but better that we don't piss them off before we even move in. =/

Condo Done

So we got the condo that we wanted and we'll be moving in there sometime in May. Unfortunately because moving out was very sudden and not totally planned out, our 60-day notice for our current apartment was this month so we will have two housing locations for the month of May. The good thing about this is that we don't have to move in on the 1st if we don't want to, so we can do things in stages, or at our most convenient date. Most likely we will be hiring movers even though our new place is not even a five minute walk down the street. There is just no other way to transport our bed and couch any other way and such a move with professional movers would be a lot faster and less backbreaking for us. Jack and I are small delicate people =P. So with that being part of our new gameplan we have to try to pack up as much stuff now as possible so that we can continue with wedding stuff until moving time. I hope I don't get too stressed out.

Apartment/Condo Hunting - Part 2

To be quite honest I've been putting wedding stuff on hold. Mostly because I find it boring and also because I now have other things to do as well. We're looking for a new place to move into because of certain issues with our current apartment - mostly the lack of AC. We found a place that we really like and we went for a second viewing today. The property manager said we could negotiate the rent price, which I have never heard of before. Is this a Toronto thing? I didn't know rent prices were negotiable. So anyway, we're going to look over the lease and if nothing seems sketchy, we're going to sign it. Hopefully the landlord will agree to our first offer so that we can get this done with. If this does go through then we will be moving in May. =D
