Red Toenails

I have a memory of when I was about 11 or so. I was in junior high and I wanted to paint my toenails red. My mom's response: "only married women wear red nail polish!" Apparently non-married girls and young women only wore pink nail polish and married women wore red nail polish. Of course I told her that was stupid and painted them red anyway. I just remembered this incident while painting my toenails red. It is the first time my nails have been red after I got legally married. I wonder what kind of nutjob marriage ideas I have ingrained in me and I won't realize until someone defies it and I yell, "only married men/women do that!"

Hair & Makeup Trial Done

I had my hair & makeup trial today by two women at Creatively Beautiful. It went very well. The owner did my makeup and another young lady did my hair. They were both super nice and professional. I was very happy with their quality of work and how organized they were. So I booked them for the wedding and we're going to be doing the hair & makeup in the salon on the morning of the wedding. It will be really convenient for us since the salon is just 10-15 from my parents' place, they will be serving us breakfast, and we won't have to worry about lighting, seating space, and table space that we would have to provide for an in-home service. Since the wedding is so early we'll have to get there at 4am so that we can leave by 7am. UGH! I am definitely going to nap in the car after the ceremony is done.

Time For A New Hair & Makeup Person

Things have been going fairly smoothly with wedding planning but it seems that the shit is finally hitting the fan. I got stood up for my hair & makeup trial appointment. Initially I had booked in a few weeks back for 12pm today. Then earlier this week the hair & makeup person e-mails me asking what time I wanted to meet her because she had a wedding early in the morning. She suggested 2-3pm. I said that would be fine and confirmed the time with her yesterday. The wedding was in Kitchener and she was supposed to call me when she left. She didn't call until 5pm, which at that point I didn't even bother answering. She left a voicemail message saying things were delayed there and her and her partner had to do more people than they were initially told. An understandable situation but seriously, she couldn't take two minutes to give me a call and tell me she would be late? I came all the way back to my parent's house (in another city) for this appointment today, washed my hair this morning, didn't do anything with myself (hair & makeup wise) and waited around all day for her call. What a waste of time. I just don't know how people can be so inconsiderate. I'm not even going to think about all that I could have done with my day.

I e-mailed my wedding co-ordinator letting her know of the issue. She had initially recommended this vendor so I thought I would give her a heads up that she may not want to recommend her. She was really appologetic and suggested another hair & makeup artist. I'm going to shop around though, which means more time wasted for me. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Hair Accessories Arrived

Sorry for the lack of blogging. I was busy with moving stuff, then I got sick, then we were unpacking & setting up the house. It's now Victoria Day weekend (yay!) and I'm at my parent's place for some wedidng-related appointments. Later today my MOH and I are going for my hair and makeup trial appointment. I'm supposed to go with my natural hair and no makeup. I haven't gone out like this in a while. My aggrivated allergies and asthma aren't helping either. I hope my runny nose and wheezing won't get in the way.

In other news I finally got to see the bridesmaids saris and the hair accessories I ordered. The saris are beautiful and I'm really happy with them. And to my excitement the headbands I ordered for the bridesmaids go with the saris beautifully. I ordered two headbands for myself - in white and ivory - because I didn't know which one would look better with my sari. The ivory looks better so I'm taking the stark white one for the trial appointment today so that I don't ruin the ivory one. I also received the hair pins I had blogged about previously. They're so georgeous! I'm so happy with them. If you are thinking of ordering headbands or hairpins, check out these two vendors. They're amazing!

Bridal Mehendi

I've decided that I will get mehendi done for my wedding day. Mehendi is an Indian tradition where henna paste (made from the henna plant) is applied to the body in intricate patterns. After being left on for a few hours it is washed off and the pattern is left on the body for a few days. The longer you leave it on, the darker the pattern will appear. It's basically a socially acceptable temporary tattoo. =P

Normally Indian Christians do not apply mehendi for their weddings because they want to distinguish themselves from Hindu wedding practices. I wasn't planning on doing it either but since I see it more of an Indian custom than a religious one, I don't see why shouldn't be able to. I'm not going to get any ohm symbols or anything. I will opt for a more simple style on my palms and forearms rather than an elaborate pattern on my arms and feet. I'm also thinking of maybe getting something across my shoulderblades since that part will be exposed with my sari.

Here is a pic of what I'm thinking of getting:
