Reception Centrepieces

That's right. CentREpieces. I'm Canadian!

So apparently people were really impressed with the decor at our wedding reception, especially the centrepieces. They were scooped up like hotcakes. They were nice looking but I didn't think they would be that popular. I had purchased them online and then decorated them with my sister (and technically Jack but after doing one lantern he gave up. >_>;;) with white flowers from Michaels Arts & Craft Store. The flowers were on a clearance sale too. We really lucked out on sales and reduced pricing due to the recession for our wedding, which is why we came under budget. =D

Since our reception was supposed to have a Chinese theme I thought lanterns would look good. But I found out that a lot of people use circular lanterns as reception decor and I didn't really want to fit the mainstream. So I had found these table lanterns on a website and ordered one to check it out. We liked them so we ordered 18 more. Here is a picture of us cutting the cake, but you can see the lantern in the shot.

The lantern comes in various colours but we chose red since it would look amazing on our black table cloths. You can order them here if you want one: Shoji Decor. They require three AAA batteries and their bulbs are LED lights, which is good for reception halls that usually don't allow open flame decorations. Their prices are in USD and they ship out of California. They only deliver to the States though. I had tried to convince them to ship it to Canada and even offered to pay extra for shipping and custom costs, but they didn't want to do it. So I had them shipped to my uncle and aunt's house in MI and my parents went to pick it up from them. Other than that, I loved them.

Wedding Done

Stupid firefox not letting me blog on here. I have to use crummy IE to make this post. I haven't been able to blog for a few days. Boo-urns!

So anyway, the wedding was last Sunday and it was great. Things went smoothly for the most part and things that did go wrong weren't that big of a deal. Plus everyone was really relaxed and easy going that the issues did not result in any freaking out. Because of this Jack and I had a great day. Nothing could get us down. The guests were amazing. Everyone was so happy for us, which made the day super awesome. Being surrounded by so much love feels great. Seriously, things that would have made me panic or get pissed off just rolled off my back. For instance: arriving a half hour later than I had planned to the ceremony location (good thing I planned to get there an hour before the ceremony =P), forgetting the guestbook for the ceremony, forgetting to print off the photo list, having the ceremony unexpectedly altered, having to stop twice while walking down the aisle to fix my sari, being declared as Mrs. Jack Hsu (no reason to change my fabulous name), having 45 minutes suddenly appear in our reception itinerary, etc. Nothing got us down, even the subtle hints that we should start going to church and start making babies...which I'm pretty sure was not intended to go hand-in-hand. Although I wonder how many babies have been conceived in a church.

Anyway, I plan on making a few more posts as there were quite a few things that I had wanted to post about just before the wedding but didn't get a chance to. As well, wedding stuff is far from over. We finished our gifts inventory and now we have to start on our thank you cards. Guess who is going to be doing those. >_>;;

Origami Folding Done

We just got our updated quote from our reception venue and it's less than the original quote. Woo hoo! So excited about that. Right now it looks like we're going to be under budget but I don't want to jinx it. =D

Secondly I have finally finished folding all our origami flowers. My rubber cement has officially died though so I'm just going to assemble them this weekend when we go back to my parents' house. We also have to assemble all our wedding favours, print off the name tags, menus and seating charts, and withdraw all the money to pay or remaining instalments with our vendors so that we can hand all that junk over to our wedding coordinator on Monday.

I just can't believe the wedding is just over a week away. Wow. Time is going by quickly!

Dancing

Jacku and I went to see our DJ Monday night to finalize some details for the reception. We didn't have a lot to put down on paper since we're not doing a lot of things that usually require a particular song (ie. bouquet toss, garter toss, certain dances). Now Jack and I didn't want to do a first dance. We're kind of shy and I don't like the spotlight on me (which is why it's crazy we're doing all of this). But we didn't really have a way to transition from the end of the dinner/formalities into the dancing portion of the evening. We didn't really want to do the whole "follow the leader" chain since we'd probably make it awkward so intead we got suckered in to starting off a dance with us and then inviting others to join us on the dancefloor. Fuck. We're going to look sooooo stupid. If you don't already know this, Jack and I are really bad at dancing with each other. Really. We don't have the same rythem and yeah...it's not good. I'm hoping the rest of the wedding party who we are going to force to dance with us are going to be awkward too so that I don't feel as stupid. =P

Another thing that bugs me about the dance portion is that I know a lot of people won't dance. What's up with people (usually older people) who just sit in their chairs and watch other people dance. WTF. Get some booze in your system and come on the dance floor. If I have to make an ass of myself dancing so do you! I command you as bridezilla! Hahaha...

Btw to those of you reading who are coming to the reception, if you want any particular type of music genre played at the reception, let us know. We weren't sure what to include on the playlist and so we put down what we think our friends would like.

Seating Plan Started

I'm tired of waiting for the last few people to RSVP (minus the ones I know can't yet or just got their invites) so I started creating the first draft of the seating plan. I don't know if I'm doing myself a great diservice since right now the seating plan has worked out pretty well. If things change too much with the rest of the RSVPs or with last minute cancellations, I'm going to go crazy doing modifications over and over. There is only one kink right now where I'm trying to avoid having only four people at a table (I'm aiming for 8 to 9) so I'm trying to figure out how to shuffle people around. I hope I don't read it over tomorrow and say to myself, "what was I thinking!" and start all over again. That would be a waste of time. =/
